Leadership competencies for the XXI century
Challenge
In 2017, the United Nations defined new leadership competencies to prepare UN leaders to meet the demands of the 21st century and to ensure that the objectives of the 2030 Agenda are achieved.
The ongoing goal is to develop managers and directors across the United Nations System in these newly defined leadership competencies, through comprehensive online training programs with the collaboration of faculty from prestigious universities.
An essential part of the leadership training is the executive coaching element that includes coaching sessions and a 360-leadership assessment.

Results
- Participants obtain a profound understanding of what is expected by them as UN leaders, in terms of competencies and behaviors that the UN is looking to consolidate in leadership positions.
- Throughout the coaching sessions and with the help of the 360-leadership assessment, participants gain direct insight into their unique strengths and possible development areas.
- They define a concrete leadership development goal for themselves and gain further insight into what they are looking to achieve.
- Participants become aware of what is key in reaching their goal, identify potential resistance that could hold them back, and how to overcome those, coming up with concrete action steps to move forward.
- They take away new models, concepts and frameworks that facilitate reaching their goals, and benefit from important mindset changes.
- Participants leave the sessions with an increased sense of confidence, “can do” attitude and high motivation to take actions towards their goals.
